Almost a Year Bloggin'

My first "official blog post" was last year on April 22.

somehow i have this feeling that if i don't mention it now i won't remember it until sometime in late June or something.

This the internet toy that i've been playing with lately. Click here to see the Internet Archive and Wayback Machine. Today i watched "The Cabinet of Dr Caligari" - i guess it was scary for a 2 inch by 2 inch, black and white, silent movie. (But it was free :-)

New Small Group

It hasn't been "officially" announced yet but at 6pm on Saturday, April 14, we will have the first meeting of our Sunday School teachers as a "small group" in our home. One reason that my wife and I bought the particular house that we did was so that we would have room to have people over.

I cannot claim to have *everything* figured out (not by a long shot) but it's time to "Just Do It" and see what happens. We are hoping to build community in our Sunday School and encourage each of our Sunday School teachers to do things to build community within their classes.

We are tentatively thinking of meeting (with this group) once a quarter on a Saturday but we might meet more often. The plan that we have is just that - a plan. We will have to see where it actually goes. I am excited. Please be in prayer for us in this positive new step in connecting people in our Sunday School ministry.

Happy Birthday, baby !!

Today we went with some friends and had some great hot dogs at the local Chicago Dogs location. Today is my wife's birthday (thirty-something) so we knew we were gonna go out and eat but the question was where she wanted to go. Late this afternoon she called and said "You know that hot dog place that we've driven past a couple times and said that we have to try? Well, thats where I want to go eat."

No joke, that's the best hot dog that I've had in a l-o-n-g time. (and we're no where near Illinois :-)

Did I Mention that my Wife is Famous?

At a recent bridal shower at church (Sunday afternoon) my friend Lily was making her baby (Isabella) laugh and another friend (moonjib of many names) had a video camera and posted it on YouTube! My wife is in the video, too.

When you pop over to YouTube check out this video, too. The user that posted the video titled it "Ultimate Lego Rubberband Gun" - it might not be the "Ultimate" but its pretty close. i'm just jealous b/c i wish i had done this. (hm, the dollhouse is almost finished and the kiddo and i will need a summer project... i wonder....)

Now i have to go back outside and do more yard work - what fun.

Fan Boy

If you know me at all, you know that i have a great affinity for comic books. Ever since NBC started running the series "Heroes", i have been hooked. No, it is not based on a comic book but it just has a great "comic book drama" kind of plot line. ("Ordinary people discovering extraordinary powers" - how many hundred comic book plot lines center around this theme?)

Its been a LONG time since i made sure i saw every episode of ANYTHING. (i won't tell you what the first TV show i took seriously was because that would really date me) Now, every Monday night, my wife and i watch Heroes. Every time a break has been announced, i have gone back to "normal" with the show's re-start date burning in my head. (Monday nights are open for me until April 23 - how teenage "fanboy" can you get?)

I had checked out the online comic but it just wasn't the same as a "real" comic for me. Although NBC was really making a valiant effort to snag me in the Heroes frenzy online as well as on the "telly" - i just wasn't going for it.

Then it happened.

They mentioned a "Heroes art auction" where you could bid on the art online and "help fight epilepsy". Two things - i like comic art and i have epilepsy so i had to check it out. Now i had no intention of buying any art - i'm far too much of a cheapskate for that, but i wanted to see it.

But art is not what i found.

While checking out nbc.com, i found the new "Heroes wiki".
Wow.
Looks like i'll be able to keep my sanity until April 23.

Good Sabbath

cool. what a day. Saw many good friends today; there was a baby dedication, accepting new members and a bridal shower at church. Went with a friend to a gun show this afternoon - i got in for free b/c i renewed my NRA membership and got a cool hat (inside the show i saw a *sweet* little 32 cal but thats another story).

I forgot to mention that yesterday i finally got to go to the range with one of my best friends. We had a really cool time.

Tonight we had a good worship service and even had a good meeting after the service. 2007 is shaping up to be a really good year, in spite of a few downers.

Fairfax, VA

Ted Nugent has just been re-elected for his fifth term on the Board of Directors of the NRA. Acclaimed as America's Number One proponent of the Second Amendment, Ted has served continuously since his initial election to the Board in 1995.

Congratulations, Ted! We salute you for your tireless promotion of our right to keep and bear!

Passport Information

At Get A Passport Now , there is quite a bit of info regarding requirements for international travel that either requires (air travel) or will soon require (cruises and land entry) that a US citizen present a passport to re-enter the USA.

Here is the info straight from the horse's mouth (so to speak) - Passport Info from the US Department of State.

Happy trails!

Great Global Warming Swindle

This BBC documentary is an hour and 15 minutes long but it does a good job of explaining a few things. For instance, carbon dioxide and rising temperatures are connected. BUT, unfortunately for the doom-sayers, CO2 levels are NOT "driving" temperature change. They are following it. By about 800 years.

And, during WW II and the post war boom (1941-1975), when humans were cranking out record amounts of CO2, the temperatures were actually dropping.

Just a few thousand years ago, the planet was much hotter than it is today, and obviously the polar bears survived.

Don't believe the "Humans cause Global Warming" hype.

What Military Aircraft Are You?

I was thinking "How in the *world* do these questions have *anything* to do with the title of the quiz??", but I just answered the questions honestly and, I must say, I like the result. This is the first and only time that I have ever taken this quiz - I don't want you to think that I "cooked" the results.

Score one for the accuracy of internet blog quizzes! :-)

Ya'll gotta try this one.

What military aircraft are you?

B-52 Stratofortress

You're a B-52. You are old and wise, and you absolutely love destruction. You believe in the principle of "peace through deterrence" and aren't afraid to throw your weight around.
