A couple things that the author doesn't mention: When the Italian player was expelled, it was for a blatant foul, the kind of thing that the dreaded red card was meant for. But when Team USA's Mastroeni was expelled it was just a bad call.

Other than those omissions, its a good article. And I'm really proud of Team USA for doing so well against such odds. And, other than saying what needed to be said about the red card, I'm not even gonna rant about the officiating. (but I could...)
